The carnation

The Greek botanist Theopharastus gave the carnation the name "Dianthus" which they are also commonly known as.  Carnations got the name Dianthus from two Greek Words - "dios", referring to the god Zeus, and "anthos", meaning flower. Carnations are thus known as the "The Flowers of God". Another reason why carnations have become popular is because they come in numerous colours and each colour of carnation has a different meaning.

The meaning of a pink carnation is "Mother's Love".

The carnation is also the birth flower for January and its general meaning is love, fascination and distinction.
